John Lugar, a physician turned filmmaker, is the creator of platinum TRIBUTES.™
After graduating from Dartmouth with a BA in art and architecture, he obtained his M.D. from Cornell.
Following an internship at North Shore University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospitals in New York, he was a resident in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale.
A muse beckoned and he departed medicine for a life in Hollywood.
He first became the assistant to Barbra Streisand's manager Martin Erlichman on the MGM movie, COMA, and then stayed on to develop film projects for Chevy Chase, among others.
John was the associate producer of Michael Crichton's LOOKER, and developed the film version of Crichton's novel CONGO, for 20th Century Fox.
He co-produced Donald Wrye's acclaimed 16 hour miniseries AMERIKA, and produced the award winning series CHINA BEACH.
He then studied at The American Film Institute (AFI), where he obtained an MFA in film directing.
His short film ALYCE IN WONDERLAND was a finalist at The Houston Film Festival.
John produced the Humanitas Prize winning LUCKY DAY, starring Olympia Dukakis, and directed 12 episodes of the PBS series HEALTHQUEST.
He served as jury head for the prestigious International Documentary Association (IDA) Awards, and his company was the first to be given unrestricted access for filming at the United Nations in Geneva.
He teaches films studies for the University of California Riverside osher life long learning institute.
